Ilocos Norte representative and senatorial candidate Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr. today joined the Ibon-Ebon Festival held annually in the town of Candaba in Pampanga.
Leading the kapampangans in welcoming the young solon was Candaba Mayor Gerry Pelayo and members of the municipal council.
The Ibon-Ebon festival is currently on its third year and is touted as one of the most-awaited festivities in Pampanga. The event, which features street dancing and parades started with a solemn mass followed by the formal opening of the program.
In his brief message to the participants, Bong Bong lauded the efforts of the local government to create income opportunities for Candaba residents through an eco-tourism program. “The Ibon Ebon event in Pampanga is indeed a very good way to promote tourism in this area. Apart from the income generating activity, environmental conservation is also actively being promoted. It’s a win-win situation for all stakeholders,” BonBong said.
The candaba swamp in the area is a bird sanctuary frequented by migratory birds. A 24-hour census in the area in 2008 showed 17,000 birds visiting the swamplands and making it a Philippine record for the most number of birds sighted in a day.
