BBM makes good on his word; returns to bring help to ‘Odette’ victims anew

Press Releases
29 December 2021

PARTIDO Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., on Wednesday fulfilled his promise to the victims of typhoon Odette, as he returned to check on their situation and extend additional aid in areas in Visayas and Mindanao that were greatly damaged during the weather disturbance’s onslaught last December 16.

Marcos first visited Southern Leyte, one of the hardest hit provinces by the typhoon, where he was welcomed by Governor Damian Mercado and other local officials.

The BBM- Sara UniTeam donated P1-M to Gov. Mercado and additional P500,000 to San Ricardo Mayor Roy Salinas, which they will use in providing immediate help to their constituents.

The town of San Ricardo is one of the badly-hit areas during the typhoon.

Aside from financial aid, they also donated 77 sets of solar panels and LED flashlights for the residents who still experience power outages.

Governor Mercado thanked Marcos for the help he extended to his constituents and take pride in Marcos’ sincerity in fulfilling his promise to return to Southern Leyte.

“Sabi niya (Marcos) Gov. may konti akong tulong sa inyo, babalik ako, magdadala akong tulong. Nandito na, bumalik talaga siya. He made his promise. Mercado said.

After the event, Marcos and his running mate, vice presidential aspirant ‘Inday’ Sara  Duterte immediately went to Siargao Island to also extend P1-M financial assistance for the people of Surigao del Norte.

They handed the amount to 2nd District Congressman Ace Barbers and P500,000 to General Luna Mayor Cecilia Rusillon, whose town was also ravaged by the typhoon.

Sacks of rice, relief goods, solar panels, 10 sets of water bucket filters, and water purifier systems were also donated by Marcos and Duterte to the province.

The said water system can provide 180 gallons of clean water per hour which will help address their problem of lack of safe and clean drinking water.

The BBM- Sara UniTeam also went to Dumaguete to check the situation in the province where they were welcomed by Governor Roel Degamo and his officials.

During their visit, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) also gave a situational briefer on the damage brought by typhoon Odette in Negros Oriental.

Concerning this, the BBM- Sara UniTeam donated P1-M financial assistance to Gov. Degamo and P500,000 to Bayawan City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves, which  they can use for rehabilitation and other needs of their constituents.

Marcos also plans to bring construction materials on his next visit after he found out that evacuation centers, aside from houses and schools, were also hit by the typhoon.

Pero for the meantime maglalagay muna tayo ng tent kasi malakas talaga ang naging pinsala sa Surigao, bagsak lahat, walang evacuation center, wala din yung mga eskwelahan, we have to find shelter for them,” Marcos said.

Marcos is optimistic that despite the hardships caused by typhoon Odette everyone will remain positive and rise again with a smile and hope to welcome the New Year.

FILIPINO VERSION

He made his promise.

Pero for the meantime maglalagay muna tayo ng tent kasi malakas talaga ang naging pinsala sa Surigao, bagsak lahat, walang evacuation center, wala din yung mga eskwelahan, we have to find shelter for them,” paliwanag ni Marcos.
