The Commission on Elections (Comelec) refuted the accusation of bias and partiality thrown against members of the Second Division, who junked the petition to cancel the certificate of candidacy of Bongbong Marcos.
Abogado Theodore Te, who’s representing Fr. Christian Buenafe and other human rights advocates, said they want decision ponente Commissioner Socorro Inting as well as commissioners Antonio Kho and Rey Bulay to “mandatorily inhibit” from their appeal of the decision before the Comelec en banc.
“Of course Comelec takes exception to such characterizations,” spokesman James Jimenez said.
“Before her appointment to the Comelec, Comm. Inting actually has 20 years of judicial experience,” he added, detailing Inting’s journey from metropolitan trial court judge all the way to the Court of Appeals prior to Comelec.
“We stand by the record of our commissioner and again, we’ll let that record speak for itself. We will wait for the motion for reconsideration to be resolved by the commission en banc,” Jimenez added.
